Crosswalk Pedestal
CP6ACT4840TCSS
CP6ACT4840TCSS-NF
The Crosswalk Pedestal is a complete station for mounting a crosswalk push button. It is comprised
of a base and cover (CP6), mounting anchors (A), Cable Tether (CT), 48" schedule 40 aluminum pipe
(4840), and a top cap with set screws (TCSS). The Crosswalk Pedestal can be ordered as a complete unit
or in separate components. It comes anodized as the standard option but can be ordered with no finish
(NF) as well.
•
CP6 (Crosswalk Pedestal Base w/6" Bolt Circle and Cover) - The base is designed for easy installation on new
construction, retrofits and knock down replacement. We have designed the base to be frangible at the flange as well
as the mid-section around the door. When it is knocked down it it will break away saving the anchor bolts and
concrete making the new repair fast and easy. Also included with the base is a copper ground lug to ensure the base
is grounded to keep your electronics safe from electrical problems.
•
A (Anchors)- These are the mounting anchors for installation of the base. Anchoring the base requires 4 anchors
made of stainless steel threaded rod, 4 washers and 4 nuts. They are installed simply by drilling holes into the
concrete pad using the supplied template, placing the rod in the hole and filling with epoxy. By using epoxy instead
of a wedge type anchor it eliminates stress and chipping on the concrete.
•
CT (Cable Tether) - The cable tether is an option designed to lay the pole down on the ground instead of launching
into other traffic or pedestrians in the event of an accident. It is made up of an 1/8" cable with one end attaching to
one of the anchor bolts and the other to a bolt drilled through the base and pipe in place of the two set screws.
When struck, the pipe and base will lay down on the ground and then the cable is designed to break before damaging
the anchor bolt it is attached to.
•
4840 (48" Schedule 40 Aluminum Pipe) - The aluminum pipe is standard sized 4" pipe. It has a brushed finish and is
threaded on one end to be screwed into the base.
•
TCSS (Top Cap w/ Set Screws) - The top cap is a compression fit cap with 3 set screws to hold it in place.
•
NF (No Finish) - All parts of the crosswalk pedestal are anodized unless no finish is specified. We now offer custom
color powder coating in quantity pricing. Please contact us with color and quantity for pricing.

Features:
ADA Accessibility: Our base is fully ADA accessible from all angles no matter where your button
is mounted on the pipe. Even if your button is mounted over the corner of the base it allows an individual
in a wheelchair to roll up to the button and press it without having to reach out past the edge of their
wheelchair. This feature gives a handicap person who has no arms the capability to press the button with
their head or other object with out having to reach. Also the base can be mounted directly on the
sidewalk avoiding having a concrete pier as an obstruction for a wheelchair to roll around.
Easy Installation: The base is designed for a easy and pain free installation. It can be used for
new construction, retrofit, or knockdown repair of the old pipe in the concrete style. In any case the
anchor bolts are simply drilled into the concrete and set with epoxy. If there is a knockdown of the old
style pipe there is no need to cut the pipe perfectly flush to the concrete. The opening on the bottom of
the base is designed to fit over the existing pipe.
Knockdown Repair: In the event of an accident, our base is engineered to be frangible in two
places. First at the mounting flange, and second, around the door. The frangibility of this base allows for
easy repair. In most cases the anchor bolts will be in tact for a new base to be set in the same place and
the pipe, cap, button, and wiring can be reused. All of these features are designed to limit time and
exposure in the field.
Here is a picture of a base from an
actual accident. As you can see the base
preformed exactly as designed in the two
points of frangibility. In this event the
anchors, pipe, cap, button, and wiring were
able to be reused making this repair fast
and easy.

Wrench Tool
For proper nut installation, a insert nut setting tool must be used. A wrench tool is available through
Frey Manufacturing Corp. for your convenience. Other setting tools and mandrels are available
through your tool supplier. Frey Manufacturing Corp. does not endorse any tool, supplier, or
manufacturer. Always follow tool manufacturer's instructions.
Field place the hole template included with equipment.
Center punch at respective “dots” on the template or as instructed.
Use the size drill bit specified for your equipment, it cannot be different.
Be sure the drill bit is sharp to cut a clean hole. If a sharp bit is not available, drill a ¼” pilot hole
first.
When drilling to proper hole size, hold the bit square to the hole.
DO NOT “REAM OUT” THE HOLD AFTER THE INITIAL CUT, this will make the hole too big.
If necessary, de-burr the hole with a small rat tail file.
Press or tap the insert nut into the hole until the nut shoulder is flush with mounting surface.
Install Setting Tool into the insert nut.
Tip: Use large handled tools for control of your installation. Avoid rocking or twisting the insert tool
when tightening. The nut is made of Grade 8 material, so expect resistance during installation.
The installation is complete when the tool makes a sudden stop during installation. For other
setting tool types, also follow manufacturer' s instructions.
